xx Profiles of the GS Council from the early years
« Thread started on: Mar 28th, 2010, 5:41pm »

I came across these profiles a while back on the old 50meg GS home page. I noticed that the links no longer worked and I could not get to the old message board. But I was able to find a way to get to the profiles of five of the earliest Captains. I thought there be one for Sabre too but I could not find it. I'm reposting them here before they vanish like most of that old web site.

The web site is here: http://goreanshores.www4.50megs.com/

XERN

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are those who come to Port Kar as outcasts, outlawed and banished from their cities, turning in last measure to the only city on Gor which tolerates and even welcomes strangers upon its streets and quays. And then there are those few who are drawn to the malignant, squalid city on the edge of the marshes, the scourge of gleaming Thassa. They are attracted to her as insects are drawn to torchlight.

Xern is of the latter classification. Inexorably drawn to the shores of Thassa, he arrived in Port Kar with little more than his blade and his ambition. His earlier years before Port Kar are clouded in mystery; and none have ever pried from him the location of his birthplace on Gor. For it is of no relevance. He is thoroughly of Port Kar.

He took to Thassa and learned the ways of the sea. Quickly gaining prominence for his rapacity, he rose through the ranks of raiders and became captain of a swift tarnship. From this single ship, he has built a small fleet of round ships and galleys which ply the waters for both trade and plunder. His personal flag remains aboard his prized tarnship, a medium class galley with a reputation as being one of the fastest ships on Thassa. Although he owns holdings and wharfage in the city, he often sleeps on board his vessel; and he has been known to set course for open water on a moment's notice. It is said that once one has seen Thassa they cannot bear to be away from her. The pirate of Port Kar knows it to be true.

A member of the Council of Captains, the marauder, along with several other independent captains, was instrumental in crushing the rival Ubars' uprising, which led to the ascension of the Council of Captains to complete supremacy over Port Kar. As a result of his role in the coup, he was awarded the position of First Sword of Port Kar, Second Chair of the Council; and he pledged his blade to the city he now considers his home. Now the Senior Captain and First Chair of the Council of Captains, he occasionally looks back on his early days in Port Kar with nostalgic fondness, but never with regret.

Although skilled with the sword, he relies often on the small daggers he sheathes in his boots. His penchant however is the whip knife of Port Kar. The weapon, indigenous to the city, is a most elegant device when wielded properly; and the pirate is well versed with the razor tipped strands of leather. He has also found it to be a most useful slave disciplining tool. Unfortunately, few slaves survive more than one encounter with his whip knife.

There are many who perceive the raider as grim and bleak, and indeed he often is. Sometimes it is merely the result of his pensive nature; but more often it is a reflection of the sacredness he holds in Gorean ideals. Do not be mistaken, though. He is not a Warrior; he wears not the scarlet colors of that caste. He follows no codes, he reveres no precepts, he craves not the accolades and honors that others seek. When once asked to describe his enigmatic disposition he replied:

"I live within the circle of my blade. I do as I please. If I wish to be benevolent and kind, then I am. If I wish to be cruel and vicious, then I am. It is in Port Kar that men are most true, most honest to their nature. That is why I came to Port Kar."

If you see a dour pirate in Gorean Shores, a tavern in the city of Port Kar, sitting in his curule chair as a larl might sit were it a man, approach him with due respect. If you do, you may be rewarded with a Brother who will shed his own blood for you without question or hesitation. If you do not, blood may be shed, but it will not be his.

ROLLO THE AX

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A son of Torvaldsland, now proudly calls Port Kar his home.

He has traveled far and wide since first taking the path of the warrior as a young man, waging war and taking lives in faraway places, making friends and Brothers in others.

For the killing of one that had insulted Him, a Jarl banished Him and named Him Outlaw ! Thus it was that He wandered Gor in search of a new Home. Moving from place to place, not finding one that felt right, until He came upon Port Kar. There he was excepted simply for what He was, and not expected to change, or forsake His Honor. It was then that He knew He had found a new Home !

To look upon Him cause many to wonder "What manner of place could breed such as this??" Standing head and shoulders above most, His great size and hairy appearance make some question if indeed he is quite human. Massive arms, end in huge hands, rough and weathered from many years of hard work, with wide shoulders and strong back, He has been known to lift a man from the floor and easily toss him aside, like a rag doll.

Long, red beard, now shot through some white hairs, reaches over half way down his chest, and a shaved pate, only seem to frame a face that could never have been called fair or handsome. And if, as they say, the eyes are "the windows of the soul", look not too deeply into his hazel orbs, for you may well be frightened at what you would find there. This is the visage of the man called Rollo.

Proficient with most all weapons, the master of many. He chooses the great Ax as his weapon of preference. To stand before Him, Ax in hand, and the blood lust upon Him, is the mistake many souls in the city of dust have made. It is not by chance that He is called "Rollo the Ax" or "Rollo the Beserker".

It is Wodin, the One Eyed, of old, that he venerates, and does swear by, or offer prayers to. Making the sign of the fist, in visual homage, to Him.

To Him, duty, honor, and courage are much, much more then just words! Duty to family, country and his codes, form His daily life. And without honor and courage how would we differ from the animals? Question his judgment if You would, but never His honor!! His word is not given lightly, but once given will not be broken.

Like those of His homeland, He enjoys humor, and when in a good mood loves to joke and laugh with His comrades and on rare occasions will burst out in song with His loud voice.

He has been given the great honor of being selected as one of the council of captains of Port Kar, and as such has pledged to fill this position to the best of his abilities.

Such is He that is called Rollo the Ax!! If you stand against His home, Gorean Shores, know you that it is He that you must face! But if you come in peace and fellowship, look for Him at His table, close to the door, so as to be first to defend, but also, the first to greet.

To A/all he says "Be well", and means his words.

KLI KODESH

Captain Emeritus

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I sit here in Port Kar, as one of Her Captains. I was asked to write in the scrolls about Me. I sit at My table looking around at a busy Tavern. kajira busy serving and Master taking their pleasures. It is far from were I started. As I think back, I shall not bore Y/you with the details.

"I know that I am from Urth. Somehow I was a ship for Gor. My age I can not remember. W/we never made it to were W/we were suppose to. There was a fire and then W/we crashed. I ran from that ship. Thinking I was the only one to survive. Somehow I found Myself in a city. T/those I found couldn't understand Me and I couldn't understand T/them. So I took to stealing to survive. How long I was a thief I can not tell Y/you. Then one day I was caught by a Man that would change My life."

"His name was Hassan Kodesh. And He taught Me the ways of Gor. The use of the sword and whip. A few years I learned from Him. Then one day He said I learned all He could teach. Handing Me some gold tarns. He told Me to leave. That when I walked out His door I was to be called Kli Kodesh. So that day I left. For many years I wander around Gor. Fought many battles. Saw many I called Brother fall to the enemy. In My travels I found Myself walking into Port Kar."

"When I first entered I found I was welcome. Sitting down with Warriors, Pirates and Thieves. I felt I was at home. Then one day the Ubar of Port Kar asked of Me as He was leaving to watch over the Tavern. I would never have thought I would have been given such a honor. So every day since I watched over the Tavern. In the course A few fell to My blade as they came into Port Kar with dishonorable intentions. The greatest honor I was given. Was when the Council of Captain's's named Me to the Council."

So that is My story. I hope it answers any questions Y/you would have.

*turning My attentions to the slave serving Me..pushing the scroll away*

BELIAL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain of the Guard for Gorean Shores

As a young warrior, I departed the place of my birth in a time of great turmoil upon Gor. Leaving the city of Klima in the Tahari Desert I traveled at the will of the Priest-Kings for a time, which I can no longer remember, bound for the city of Telnus on the isle Cos.

Traveling through the Plains of Turia, the Great Ta-Thassa Mountain, and the jungles of Schendi I was forced to learn much of myself, many things which I had never known. Upon passing the Plains of Sanchez and finally reaching the Vosk Delta, I found myself in the city known as Port Kar, the "Scourge of Thassa"

This city, inhabited mainly by ruthless bands of sailors, thieves and pirates, proved to be a new experience to me. An experience one may only encounter once in his lifetime. Living mainly in the streets of the city while seeking passage to the island of Cos, I became a captive to this strange new way of life. A way of life I had never experienced.

Until one day, the day I entered Gorean Shores, where I, as a warrior, sat and drank with thieves, slavers, and pirates, the mortal enemies of the Codes of the Warrior.

For the first time in my memory, I felt as if I was home, and at ease. Knowing a new inner contentment, one that I had never felt, I pledged my sword to the Captains of the tavern. Knowing that what I had held closest, The Codes of the Warriors, may be forever lost to me, I then and there decided that I would no longer serve the Priest-Kings of Gor. I would now serve only my home and myself.

Should you find a warrior here, one that still wears his scarlet cloak upon his shoulders, you will have found either a true friend that would shed his blood for you, or a bitter enemy, who would just as surely shed yours.

In the Codes of the Warriors, there is a saying; "Be strong, and do as you will. The swords of others will set you your limits." There is no truer a statement anywhere under the 3 moons of Gor.

To all who enter this tavern, be it known that I would gladly sacrifice my life for my home.

MARIUS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Port Kar, scourge of gleaming Thassa. The mighty Warrior pulls open the door of the Tavern. Stepping in, his eyes of steel, so blue, his stern face. Always taking the liberty in the delights of the city.

His cold eyes scan the Tavern, always wanting his needs to be met. Eyes continually hungry ......always observing the highly trained dancers and the best Tavern girls in all of Gor. The slaves hunger for his collar, some even beg for it. This warrior sees what he wants and takes it. His hunger never being met. He thirsts for many and quenches the thirst that he has.

He will protect his home with his life and he has NO fear confronting every issue head on. His strength is always visible at ALL times. He bows to no man. And certainly to NO women.

A fine warrior with the whip. You can, at times, hear the *CRACK* of his whip echo throughout the Tavern walls.

Even though he is stern, give to the mighty Warrior and he will give back.

This Warrior is MARIUS.

Ah, I miss those men that are gone. Too bad you couldn't find bios for Bolt Sarakai or even JUSTBAD, but I'm not sure if my brothers ever wrote any.
