Tal and greetings

For some time I have intended to present some readings just for the sake of it in the same way that one might hear some music and wish to tell others. So much abounds across the internet and yet we as a group rarely mention a great deal of wider Gor both as place and philosophy other than to discuss passages from books set in certain locations. I have come to realise that in some way we are a little bit insular here in Gorean Shores. We have opinions, ideas, knowledge of the ways of habit, yet is there not a yearning perhaps for more?.

I won't say we shut the world out, though perhaps we do in a way behind the isolation of our city. And why not ? we are proud. True we have no homestone but we have other things. Perhaps more sense of place than any single room gorean homes can lay claim to in My experience, from wandering over time into this gorean home and another out of curiosity. Because our site rambles rooms a plenty there is a real feel of indoors and outdoors and so on. We are fortunate to have these sites of GS and the corks to come and go as we please and know they are virtually as solid as the stone walls and the cliffs of Port Kar. But there is a whole planet and those books we strive to exist in roam across it like the wind. A thirst for knowledge of it can only be a help to shaping character and purpose and place I think.

I do not propose a travelogue or encyclopedia. Rather that we can learn something from outside our walls. Merely things that are interesting about place and culture and about the phenomenon we are part of that dare to pretend something that we feel so real.

And there is some wonderful reading across the internet that can be compelling as well as educational and what I am happy to do from time to time to time is share what I find if any are interested. It might help just one or everyone to broaden the vision and become more absorbed in this realm of which we can but dream.

Here is an excerpt from an essay. I have borrowed the words from Marcus of Ar. I feel sure He will not mind.
the full essay can be found here

"Where is Gor?

Is it to be found online, amidst the chatrooms, corkboards and message centers of the internet? Is it contained within a particular IRC channel, or chat service, or roleplaying room? Is it to be found on a website, are even upon all websites?

No, it cannot be found there.

Is it to be found within the celluloid frames of the movies which were created to tell its story?

No, not there.

Is Gor to be discovered by memorizing passages of prose from the series of books which gave form to the Counter-Earth? Can it be squeezed and gleaned from websites which discuss the particulars of Gorean concepts, lifestyles and philosophy? Can it be unmasked and revealed through logging into a chat channel on the internet and typing in the right combination of phrases at the correct times, and in the correct order?

Never. Because Gor is bigger than all of that. Because Gor, though replete with whips and chains and swords and collars, though filled with war and combat and the struggles of Men and their women, is not about any of that. It is about something else.

"Gor is based upon love. Believe it or not.

That is the source of its greatness, and its strength. Gor is based upon the love which people can experience for their world, for their companions, and for their humanity. It is built upon the concept that men and women can love the truth, and that they can pursue that truth to its fullest extent. Those who know Gor, know that in it are contained all expressions of the love for life, the love of beauty, the love of strength, the love of honor, even the love which a group of men can feel toward a simple stone.

Those who cannot understand that Gor can be loved, and lived, will never be able to understand its strength, its purity, and its majesty. The planet Gor does not, and cannot, exist. But there are still those brave men and women who close their eyes and dream about it. In their imaginations they see the endless vistas of the green sa-tarna fields which dot that world, they behold the trackless crests of the mighty Voltai mountains, they smell the dust of the Plains of Turia and they feel the sweet clean air of another world upon their skin. "

Wether all that is right, partly right, or all wrong is for the reader to decide. But it does make for a widening of ones curiosity I hope.

Having lived in different parts of Canada I find it easier than Most to see most of Gor in its beauty ... I merely have to remember. Grant you that I never lived in the coast either of the east or west... but the shores of Lake Superior is pretty close... it is an inland sea.... and gets most of the same storms as the oceans. So, yes I have the advantage that I only need to remember what I have seen and experienced to know and understand the beauty and majesty of Gor.
